A week of Blessings!

So today I want to share a post from one of our amazing members this week. Its about something that happened this week.

This morning I arose early to walk Murphy up our quiet country road by the lakeside. A summer paradise indeed. I was on my way to finish what I started last evening.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the Mormons) has in its service at any one time 60,000 to 80,000 young men and women mostly ages 18-22, called to serve the world over. They accept wherever they are called to go and serve at their own or their families' expense for a span of two years. My own call was to France and Switzerland from 1969-1971. My brothers also served in France and Belgium and one of our sons as well, and another served in Norway. Here in Hamilton, we have two 'sister' missionaries as we call them, Sister Loveland and Sister Rodriguez, whose homes are in Utah and Idaho. Last night at 8 or so, they called me in a panic. This little kitten had walked into a barn fan at the home they were visiting and been knocked unconscious and was bleeding. They were distraught. The folks they were visiting were destitute and without a car. "Brother Gilchrist, do you think you could drive over here and look at this kitten. There's blood everywhere and the family is panicking." They tearfully told me, trying to hold back the panic in their own voices. There was only one answer and so I donned my shoes and headed into the dark (and stormy night). Using my now beloved GPS system I easily found the home on a backroad some 10 miles from us and 20 miles from the clinic. The home was in very tough shape and the residents were trying to cool themselves with a barn fan placed in the rear door way and aimed into the living room. One of the sisters was trying to console the family and the other was cutting some old wire mesh with tin snips in an attempt to improvise a guard for the fan that was almost the demise of this cute black and white kitten. Almost. It occurred to me that these two sheltered young women had probably never seen such a scene of poverty. And yet, here they were with rolled up sleeves doing their best to help and calling on all the resources at their disposal, for help. I examined the cat and drove her back to the clinic where Jean, a kind hearted animal loving technician, helped me arrange a comfortable cage and warming towel for her while I gave her medication for her bleeding and congestion and shock. This morning she was much better and I was able to safely anesthetize her, suture the cut lip, both inside the mouth and then the outer skin layer. By the time I returned her to her owners she was waking up. Our payment was the privilege of serving together, each in our own capacity, and being useful members in the brotherhood/sisterhood of humanity. If you see these sisters around, invite them in. If you don't see them, call them to invite them into your homes. They will bring with them such a good spirit you will hate to see them leave. Their message may not be what you seek but I guarantee their goodly countenance, goodwill and charity toward all, is a blessing to all. This is the America I know and the one I sing without reserve "God Bless America, land that I love"

You are Magical Spiritual Beings!!!

Well can I just say this week was a week full of wonderful fantastic MIRACLES!!!!!! Sister Rodriguez and I have been working ourselves to death and oh my holy Hannah Montana!!! The Lord is blessing us so much!!!!

So on Monday, we decided to have a Family Home Evening with the Gang (one of the biggest families in our branch) One of the family members just came back from Nashville with a guy she is going to marry. So we decided to teach the Restoration. As we taught the restoration a cousin of one of the members was there as well. The Spirit was so strong, I could hardly keep myself from crying when I taught Joseph Smiths experience. After we shared the restoration every member of the family shared their testimony about the restoration. It was so wonderful at the end of the lesson, Both Michael and Lacey accepted to be baptized on September 10th. AHHHHH!!!!!! I am so excited!!! We met with both of them multiple times this week in fact we had 5 lessons with them both and the other 2 days we contacted them on Facebook to remind them about there commitments. All i can say is wow! I love missionary work! We do have our hard days were we come home and just want to die but then the Lord blesses you for all our hard work with wonderful miracles!

The work is going great and I love it!!!! Training really is such a blessing, I have no idea what I am doing but it is so wonderful being able to teach Sister Rodriguez the things that I have learned on my mission. It is just GREAT!!!!

Also this week we have been doing a lot of teaching on the plan of Salvation. I absolutely love the Plan of Salvation to Death!!!! This time though as I was studying the Plan of Salvation through out the week. My mind kept focusing on the Final Judgement. I have always thought the the Final Judgement was a sacry thing and something to just never look forward to. But as I studied I found a scripture that I fell in love with that totally changed my train of thought on the Final Judgement. D&C45:3-5; " Listen to him who is the advocate wiht the Father, who is pleading your cause before him- Saying: Father, behold the suffering and death of him who did no sin, in whom thou wast well pleased; behold the blood of thy Son which was shed, the blood of him whom thou gavest that thyself might be glorified; Wherefore, Father spare these my brethren that believe on my name, that they may come unto me and have everlasting life." it is so amazing to think how much mercy is actually involved with the Plan of Salvation. I am so grateful for our Savior Jesus Christ for with out him there truly would be nothing in this life.

Thank you for all your love and support!!! You are all wonderful and i am so grateful for all you do!!! My the Lord bless you forever and always!

What a wonderful week!!!

So this week is in describable!!! My trainy Sister Rodriguez is amazing!!! She basically came to me Pre- trained!!!! All I am doing is teaching her little things like the differences between a New Investigator and a Potential Investigator. Sister Rodriguez is from Salt Lake City, Utah!!! She wants to be a teacher so that is awesome! We get along great!!! She right now is in a little shock because we have basically nothing here and she is use to having every store at the ends of her finger tips. But she is doing awesome and man oh man, I love her!!! I know Heavenly Father knew i need to be her trainer for the being of her mission and the end of my mission.

So this week started out pretty crazy with, Sister Fausett packing and getting ready to go to her new area. Then Boom!!!! The work began on Wednesday when I picked up Sister Rodriguez!!!!! On the first day we went and say the Gang in Morrisville (Nikki and Keiths Family) There we had a awesome lesson and got a new investigator!!! We also did hay once again and that was a shocker for Sister Rodriguez because she had never done something like that before. Then we had one super intense weekly planning as we planed by the needs of each person we teach! Wow was a spiritual experience! Never will i plan a quick easy lesson again!!! I know that planning by the needs of our investigators is so important and that as we are servants of the Lord we should always plan our lessons the same way we would and that is though the needs of Gods Children. Then we Hit the Pavement hard!!! I honestly have probably tracted more then i have most of my mission. We are trying to find people to treach about 1 hour each day. Oh boy!!! Are there miracles that come from that. Just last night we gave out 2 Book of Mormons just through tracting. It is amazing to see the Lords hand in his work!!!! Sunday Sister Rodriguez was able to speak in church and that was awesome!!! I can not wait to see what miracles will happen this transfer.

I want to share with you a scripture i found today during my studies, it is in D&C 19 verse 16-19. It reads, " For behold, I, God have suffered theses things for all, that they might not suffer if htey would repent; But if they would not repent they must suffer even as I; which suffering caused myself, even God, the greatest of all, to tremble because of pain, and to bleed at every pore, and to suffer both body and spirit- and would that I might not drink the bitter cup, and shrink- nevertheless, glory be to the Father, and I partook and finished my preparations unto the children of men." These are the literally the words of our Savior as he was speaking to the Prophet Joseph Smith. I know that Jesus Christ is our Savior. And I know that just as it was hard from him to preform the Atonement it was also hard for our Father in Heavenly to see his only begotten Son go through that pain. But because he loves us he make it possible.

Thank you all for all your love and support!!! I love you and I know that God Loves you have a blessed day!!!

Im gonna be a Momma!!!!!!!! I am Training !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So Saturday I got a call form President!!! I was sacred out of my mind because president only calls for leadership when it is the end of the transfer. When I was talking to him he told me that I will be training a new missionary fresh from the Mission Training Center.

So you can understand the title of my email. In my mission when you train a new missionary you are called there mom, because you are teaching them the ways of being a missionary. Just like a mom teaches her child the ways of being a good human. So because i will be training I am going to be a MOM!!! And have my first and only mission baby!!! I will be picking her up on Wednesday and boy oh boy am I excited!!!! I know that this is Heavenly Fathers way of helping me finish my mission strong!!

So this week has been crazy we had exchanges on Friday and that was oddly enjoyable. I got to see some of the old people I taught when I was in New Hartford. So that was such a tender mercy because I honestly hate exchanges. So That was a bonus!!!!

Also on Saturday, Our branch had a Pioneer Day celebration. Oh that was lots of fun!! We did the Famous Joseph Smith Stick pull. Had a really good Cook Out (BBQ) and had a wonderful time talking to all the Branch members out side of Church.

Also on Sunday I had the wonderful opportunity to speak in church!!! I spoke about "How the Gospel can change Attitude and Behavior" I would like to share with you all a few things that I shared in my talk. For me I like to refer to this change as a " Mighty Change of Heart" In Alma 5 its says, " And according to his faith there was a mighty change wrought in his heart. Behold I say unto you that this is all true.  And behold, he preached the word unto your fathers, and a mighty change was also wrought in their hearts, and they humbled themselves and put their trust in the true and living God. And behold, they were faithful until the end; therefore they were saved. And now behold, I ask of you, my brethren of the church, have ye spiritually been born of God? Have ye received his image in your countenances? Have ye experienced this mighty change in your heart?" I love the concept of a mighty change of heart because it always refers to becoming converted unto the Lord and having that firm testimony that the Gospel of Jesus Christ is true. I wont to take a moment and reflect on the story of the 10 virgins. Everyone knows the parable for the most part, 5 had only before the bridegroom came and the other 5 did not. So lets look at the Lamp that holds the only as a testimony. All 10 of the virgins had a testimonial of the Restored Gospel. Now lets look at the oil as a conversion. In the parable only 5 had the oil need to shine the way. Our life here on earth is to become truly converted unto the Lord, Jesus Christ. How else are we suppose to prepare for when he comes again. So here is my question to you all, Are you going to be of the 5 that are converted and have the oil ready to shine the way to meet our savior? or are you going to be of the 5 that just has a lamp with no oil that is wondering in the darkness trying to go get some only?

i know that as we are converted unto our Savior and his gospel we will be ready for when he comes again and he will know us for his light will shine about us.

Thank you all for all the Love and support!!!! You are all amazing sons and Daughters of God!!!

Storms all day everyday!!!

Well this week has been one rain storm after another. We really can no catch a break! Almost everyday this week it has rained and its not just a little rain it is like fluid the streets rain. It is kinda outrageous.   On Wednesday we had the wonderful privilege of helping one of our investigators stack hay in there hay mount. It was so much fun!!!! Oh how i miss working on a farm!!! This Wednesday we are going back to help some more. Keith ( our investigator) loves having us over because i don't wait to be asked to come help. Back to my story last Wednesday after we helped with hay we went to their house and had supper. Then the storm of all storms hit!!! We were on tornado warning there was hail falling from the sky and the wind was blowing up to 60 mph. It was crazy!!! there was so many trees knocked down I just had to laugh!!! It took the town about 2 days to clean it all up. The storms here are super cool!!!

The work in Hamilton is going pretty good, We had a small hiccup this week because we had to go to the Urgent care for Sister Fausett on Friday. So that was a adventure! but i can now say i went to the Doctors on my mission just not for me. I feel really blessed that I have not need to go to the Doctors while I have been serving the Lord. Its been a kinda slower week, why i have no idea but it just has been. So this week we have set the goal to keep the day busy no matter what. I hope we can do this because last time we set this as a goal I almost killed my companion so I pray that all will go well.

So the past few weeks I have been so blessed in being able to do singing time in primary!!! Oh how I love primary!!! The last few weeks we have been learning I love to see the Temple. It was so much fun because as we were going though the song we talked about why the temple is so important and how we can prepare to go to the temple now. I have come to understand what the Savior meant when he said "become as a little child" Through primary i have been able to truly understand that the Gospel is really so simple but yet so complex. It is so important to remember if a child can bare their testimony that they know the Restored Gospel to be true. We to can gain that testimony and bear witness of its truth and divinity to those around us.

Thank you all for all your love and support i am so grateful to have such a great support system behind me as I go forth and do the work the Lord has sent me forth to do here in New York.

Miracles happen everyday!!!!!

So I first want to start out telling you about a amazing miracle that happened this week. It may not be super big but it is a big deal to me, because i have been praying about it for the last 3 weeks. So on Friday, Sister Fausett and i felt we needed to go into Morrisville and try a Former Investigator and try a family we have been teaching that we haven't been able to contact in a while. We went and tried April the former investigator. All I can say is WOW the spirit sure was in control of that lesson. We taught the restoration and at the end when we invited her to pray all of a sudden out comes, " April when you come to know that what we have shared with you is true, will you be baptized by someone holding the Priesthood Authority of God?" April looked at us and said, " Yes, none of the sisters that have ever came to see me has ever asked me that." Right then we sent a Baptismal date for August 27th. So you all know what i was praying for, I was praying that we would be able to set a baptismal date for someone I would know Heavenly Father truly had prepared and on Friday i saw just that! I know Heavenly Father truly does hear and answer all of our prayers!

This Sunday our mission President and his grand kids attended our sacrament meeting. That was a really special opportunity our mission president talked about missionary work and the doctrine of Christ. But for me the best part was President Rogers grand kids sang the new primary song, "A God of Miracles" IT goes like this;
" Jesus walked
Upon the water
He stilled the storm
And calmed the angry sea
With his hands
He healed the leper
He made the lame to walk
The blind to see
He fed a thousand people
With a loaf or two of bread
And when the ruler’s daughter died
He raised her from the dead
Jesus is a God of miracles
Nothing is at all impossible to Him
But I know this
Of all his miracles
The most incredible
Must be the miracle that rescues me
Jesus bled and died to save me
A price that I could never pay alone
When He rose again He gave me
The greatest gift the world has ever known
Yes I can be forgiven
Every time that I repent
And some day he will lift me up
To live with Him again
Jesus is a God of miracles
Nothing is at all impossible to Him
But I know this
Of all his miracles
The most incredible
Must be the miracle that rescues me
The miracle that rescues you and me"

I am so grateful I was able to ear these sweet words on Sunday. I want to bare my testimony that I know with all my heart that Jesus Christ is our Savior and Redeemer. I know that the Atonement of Jesus Christ is for everyone and that it is though is Atonement we can feel whole and know that we are not Alone. I am so grateful I am able to share this knowledge with Gods Children here in New York.

Thank you all for all your love and support! I hope and pray that you all have the oppritunity to take a minute and reflect upon how the Atonement has helped you in your life. You are all amazing and keep building you testimony stronger and stronger as you relay on the mercy of your loving Savior Jesus Christ.

A wonderful week finished with the Temple

So I am emailing on Tuesday (today) because I had the wonderful opportunity to attend the Palmyra Temple this morning. Oh!!! How I missed the temple so much!!!! I first want you all to know that i know the Temple is the House of the Lord and it is the most Holiest place here on Earth. I was ready to cry as I had to walk out of that wonderful sacred place. But what a privilege it was to be able to feel of the powerful spirit with in those walls.

So this week was kinda crazy!!! My companion hasn't been feeling well so that has added a few hick ups, but that's ok it want stop me from finding ways to do the work. We are working with 2 investigators particularly on acting on there faith and moving forward towards baptism. They both know the church is true and they both know how the Restored Gospel can bless their lives the only down fall right now is they have little hang ups, like one is struggling with quitting smoking and the other is keeping her loyalty still kinda to the Catholic church. So we are working with them to act on their faith and to move forward and take the next step which is Baptism by someone holding the Priesthood Authority of God. We have been doing a lot of praying for them.

Also this week was a little miracle our Mission President is encouraging us to do a hours worth of Finding each day. So as much as i am not the number one fan of finding we started to do it a little more. On Tuesday Morning we had planned to go tracking for a hour on the street right behind us. So before we left we said a prayer and asked Heavenly Father to lead us to those he is preparing on this street. So we head off. We knock on about 4 doors and we had about 2 people that kinda interested. Then we knock on the 5th door. We met this awesome guy named Luke, he came outside and let us share the messages of the Restorations. Then he told us " well this is actually my business, i live up stairs." Then we got talking and He had a lot of questions about the Plan of Salvation and what will happen after we die. I have never met anyone so prepared!!!!!

So thats about it other then the 4th of July!!! We had some members invite us to there bbq's. It was wonderful!!!Monday wasn't our Pday so we still were trying to teach people and had some fun crashing peoples parties. Nothing really happened other then we got really fat off of all the good food members fed us!

It truly has been a wonderful week and thank you so much for all your love and support!!!
